I made a card!

Well, you may have thought, "MH has forgotten all about her blog". But, it's not entirely true. I got a little bit over busy with work and Relay for Life, but now things are going better - so! This morning before work I made a card to congratulate a coworker on achieving that so-cool engineer status: The PE! (Professional Engineer - I take the test in October. I may whine about the studying required.) Here it is:


I was reading about inchies last night, so I decided to give them a try. My review? They're fun! I think I'll try them again sometime soon. I was in a big hurry, so this isn't anything too special, but it was fun to get back into making something. I plan to do some more soon. Here's the inside, with a fun stamp that was quite appropriate, I think. Also, I liked making it open like a book, even though it was a "landscape" card.

I'm still here!

So, it's been a while since I posted. Sorry! I've been thinking, "oh, I'll do it tomorrow" for several days/weeks in a row. Here's a quick update to let you all know that I'm still breathing, walking, etc.

Last night I saw Star Trek. That is a truly great film. I LOVED IT! I had only seen one episode of Star Trek (and I don't even think it was the original show) before this, but you don't need to know the show. It really was wonderful. The night before that, I saw lots of episodes of Big Bang Theory, which is really pretty cute. Although, I think the characters would drive me crazy if I actually knew them. The night before that was a Relay for Life meeting and the night before that, the brother and I checked out a Mongolian grill, went for a walk on the beach, and then read books. Last weekend, my whole family was visiting, and we took some diverting photos (which reinforced my notion that I ought to lose some weight) and had some great wii playing time. So, that's the week in reverse.

This evening, I ran into a friend as I was leaving work, and we ended up going out for dinner - then his mom and cousins showed up as we were finishing, so we had a fun time talking while they ate. Thai food. Need I say more? I think not.

I'm thinking of just hanging out this weekend, doing some household domestic sorts of things, recovering from guests and getting ready for a super busy work week. I have a project going to construction that must be done by the end of June. Also, I've been working on straightening out some right-of-way issues in an area of town. And, Relay for Life is coming up quick! I'm thinking that I'll need a vacation by July or August. Maybe I'll fly somewhere and stay in a hotel and sit by the pool. That sounds wonderful!

A couple of pictures to share while I'm watching The Fashion Show. First off, some babies! They slept sweetly in the yard for several hours Saturday morning. They weren't much bigger than Lillers.

Then, the Rhody parade. I got a sunburn while judging the floats - Sequim's was beautiful. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of it. But, it was gorgeous. I do have a bunch of pictures of the motorcycle drill team! The best one - for seeing what they do - is out of focus, but I'm showing you anyway.


I also have a picture of these funny guys! Evergreen Fitness - they were so happy to be there. Endorphins, you know.

The local favorite: The Lawnchair Drill Team! They're awesome! Unfortunately, I didn't get to see their show, but they did walk by in snake formation.

I made some new friends during the parade and got a bunch of hugs from people I already know. It was a great day!

Today at the gas station, I met a couple people who are bicycling around the world. They started in 2003, and have about a year longer to go. They didn't stay long in PT - they were heading straight for the ferry. I wish them well!

Let's take a break from all the soul-searching and switch to some cute cards! First up, my Mother's Day card for (get this!) my MOM!


Next, an all occasion card for a friend. It's flat, it's square, and it's already in the mail!


Another all occasion card - are you loving the car stereo backdrop? We had a super sunny day today, so I took advantage of it and got some pictures in natural light!


And finally, a baby card for a friend of mine who is expecting a boy... I especially like the way this one turned out. I used colored pencils, smoothed with Gamsol, and the red strip was stamped with versamark. Cute, eh? Inside it says: welcome.


It's Rhody week, and the carnival started tonight. Went after work with a few co-workers and was nearly enticed to break my lifelong ban on portable rides - they looked like so much fun. Here's a pretty kids ride!

More Questions than Answers

I've said it before, and I'm thinking it again: Wouldn't it be wonderful if we got some sort of a document from God that outlines where we'll be at each stage in our life? Like: At 28, merryheathre will question everything, but that's okay because then she'll figure it out when she least expects it. Or something. I know that God has a plan for my life, but I'd really like to make sure I haven't totally messed it up. And also, I'd like to know what's next.

I've been thinking about God's will a lot because I've decided that I shouldn't keep complaining about something without DOING something about it. So, I have the opportunity to get a weekend apartment near an active, young church and I really think I'd like to do it. At the same time, that will be, in effect, the first step to me moving away from the place I've called home for nearly four years, and people that I truly love at this church. I only planned to be here for four years, but my work is going pretty well, and I'm a little bit scared of the prospect of change. There's this little voice saying "What if you go somewhere else and hate it? What if this is as good as it gets?"

After church a woman told me that when she makes a decision between two options, she picks the one that she believes will bring her into a closer relationship with God, then trusts that God will prevent it from happening if she was wrong. I hope that this will be true for me.

Garage Voice and Seth Martin

This weekend was pretty quiet and uneventful until yesterday afternoon, when Garage Voice came to town. (Or, the Garage Band Boys, as mom calls them.) They played at the Boiler Room, and while there was not a huge crowd, it was a good show, and the people who were there LOVED it. They let me tag along and afterward we had Thai food - delish!

They opened with a jam and basically everyone there joined in - then Garage Voice & Seth Martin took turns playing. They both played a lot of new stuff, and they were both quite good. Okay, they were great.

The Boiler Room is this place for young people to hang out and there was a girl there working on Calculus homework, so I read it over her shoulder and felt like I was getting some studying done! Bonus!

So, the Garage Band Boys are now on twitter and they're totally excited about it. Also, one of the people who works at Khu Larb - looks like I may have to consider joining up... I'll definitely keep you posted, and I may have to cave and get a better phone... We'll see.

Old News

Well, last weekend was quite possibly one of the busiest times of my life, and I loved it! It started right after work on Friday - Firefly and I met up for some craft supply shopping and "the last supper". (Firefly moved Sunday. Tear.) I got this really cool stuff called Gamsol that smooths out colored pencils so that they blend and look almost watercolor-y. We had dinner at Siren's - definitely the best food in town.

Sabbath morning I made Mickey Mouse waffles (the Mickey waffle iron was a gift from my Grandma a long time ago) with strawberries and whipped cream for Firefly and her husband. Plus we had some tots and stripples and Simply Orange pulp free. Basically, at that point I could have never eaten again, but...

I caught the ferry over to Seattle!



There, I met Lisa and Tompaul and we headed over to U Village for some really tasty mexican food and a bit of browsing in the Barnes & Noble. We were killing time until the Improv started at Greenlake Church. Their theme was monsters, so we did our best to help out.



I was so proud, they actually used one of my suggestions (squawk like a chicken), but the best skit was one where the actors can't move themselves - there's a second person moving their hands, feet, etc. Quite funny.

After a LATE ferry back to PT, I got up early for the Rhody Ride - saw some cute kids out for bikes rides with their parents. Then, helped Firefly move, then hung out with some other really cute kids!



Busy, but I finally caught up on sleep on Wednesday...
