Fun stuff!

Let's take a break from all the soul-searching and switch to some cute cards! First up, my Mother's Day card for (get this!) my MOM!


Next, an all occasion card for a friend. It's flat, it's square, and it's already in the mail!


Another all occasion card - are you loving the car stereo backdrop? We had a super sunny day today, so I took advantage of it and got some pictures in natural light!


And finally, a baby card for a friend of mine who is expecting a boy... I especially like the way this one turned out. I used colored pencils, smoothed with Gamsol, and the red strip was stamped with versamark. Cute, eh? Inside it says: welcome.


It's Rhody week, and the carnival started tonight. Went after work with a few co-workers and was nearly enticed to break my lifelong ban on portable rides - they looked like so much fun. Here's a pretty kids ride!

More Questions than Answers

I've said it before, and I'm thinking it again: Wouldn't it be wonderful if we got some sort of a document from God that outlines where we'll be at each stage in our life? Like: At 28, merryheathre will question everything, but that's okay because then she'll figure it out when she least expects it. Or something. I know that God has a plan for my life, but I'd really like to make sure I haven't totally messed it up. And also, I'd like to know what's next.

I've been thinking about God's will a lot because I've decided that I shouldn't keep complaining about something without DOING something about it. So, I have the opportunity to get a weekend apartment near an active, young church and I really think I'd like to do it. At the same time, that will be, in effect, the first step to me moving away from the place I've called home for nearly four years, and people that I truly love at this church. I only planned to be here for four years, but my work is going pretty well, and I'm a little bit scared of the prospect of change. There's this little voice saying "What if you go somewhere else and hate it? What if this is as good as it gets?"

After church a woman told me that when she makes a decision between two options, she picks the one that she believes will bring her into a closer relationship with God, then trusts that God will prevent it from happening if she was wrong. I hope that this will be true for me.

Garage Voice and Seth Martin

This weekend was pretty quiet and uneventful until yesterday afternoon, when Garage Voice came to town. (Or, the Garage Band Boys, as mom calls them.) They played at the Boiler Room, and while there was not a huge crowd, it was a good show, and the people who were there LOVED it. They let me tag along and afterward we had Thai food - delish!

They opened with a jam and basically everyone there joined in - then Garage Voice & Seth Martin took turns playing. They both played a lot of new stuff, and they were both quite good. Okay, they were great.

The Boiler Room is this place for young people to hang out and there was a girl there working on Calculus homework, so I read it over her shoulder and felt like I was getting some studying done! Bonus!

So, the Garage Band Boys are now on twitter and they're totally excited about it. Also, one of the people who works at Khu Larb - looks like I may have to consider joining up... I'll definitely keep you posted, and I may have to cave and get a better phone... We'll see.

Old News

Well, last weekend was quite possibly one of the busiest times of my life, and I loved it! It started right after work on Friday - Firefly and I met up for some craft supply shopping and "the last supper". (Firefly moved Sunday. Tear.) I got this really cool stuff called Gamsol that smooths out colored pencils so that they blend and look almost watercolor-y. We had dinner at Siren's - definitely the best food in town.

Sabbath morning I made Mickey Mouse waffles (the Mickey waffle iron was a gift from my Grandma a long time ago) with strawberries and whipped cream for Firefly and her husband. Plus we had some tots and stripples and Simply Orange pulp free. Basically, at that point I could have never eaten again, but...

I caught the ferry over to Seattle!



There, I met Lisa and Tompaul and we headed over to U Village for some really tasty mexican food and a bit of browsing in the Barnes & Noble. We were killing time until the Improv started at Greenlake Church. Their theme was monsters, so we did our best to help out.



I was so proud, they actually used one of my suggestions (squawk like a chicken), but the best skit was one where the actors can't move themselves - there's a second person moving their hands, feet, etc. Quite funny.

After a LATE ferry back to PT, I got up early for the Rhody Ride - saw some cute kids out for bikes rides with their parents. Then, helped Firefly move, then hung out with some other really cute kids!



Busy, but I finally caught up on sleep on Wednesday...

Busy Week, Quick Card

Well, I've been gone from my home every night this week, but tonight I really wanted to make a card to say thank you to my hosts last night (delicious cornbread and vegetable soup!). So, I opened up my Card Sketches book and used the first one that was a similar shape. This is an itty-bitty (3 1/2 by 5) card and I think it turned out pretty cute. It didn't take too long, once I had tracked down all the supplies I needed. My mistake was using construction paper rather than cardstock as the base. Oops! It still stands up on it's own, so I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

I just watched a video from www.vervent.org When you get to the page, click on Stained Glass: Hollywood Blvd. It's about a church that went through something similar to my church - but it looks like they're on the upward swing. That could happen in my church!

Off to do Bollyrobics!

Well, my Bollyrobics DVD came, and I've done the armchair preview, so here goes the real thing! I did some crunches on Sunday and my stomach muscles are still sore, which means this could be interesting. I've just realized that the Rhody Run is in less than 5 short weeks, and I've got my work cut out for me if I'm really going to beat last year's time.

I've also got my work cut out for me, studying for the PE exam, but my review materials haven't come yet, so I'm having to content myself with free body diagrams and other basics.
